The reSource network has been an extremely valuable resource in the process of establishing and running SPEKTRUM Berlin. It allowed us to connect with like-minded people in the city, to start up new collaborations, and to learn from those facing similar issues in running project spaces.

Essay

The essay summarizes the Czech-Brazilian cultural theorist and media philosopher Vilém Flusser’s ideas on the apparatus, codes, and programmed and manipulated society. He ends his texts by highlighting the importance of artists who might be able to play with and against the apparatus and challenge mass media and their preprogrammed functions.

Essay

From 2011 to 2014, Tatiana Bazzichelli and a team of others designed a sprawling event program called “reSource transmedial culture Berlin,” which picked up on transmediale-related projects and flung them far further.

Antiphonia

19:00 –
Studio dB

An evening of electroacoustic-embodied, sensing-kinetic, sound and installation works. Drawing inspiration from the concept of antiphonal music, characterised by call-and-response structures that resonate through space, Antiphonia brings together media and sound artists working with computational and electronic systems, electroacoustic objects, musical instruments and the body — where performances diffuse between installations and durational sonic interventions in polyvocal exchange.

Rather than framing the physical and the digital as antagonists, the evening foregrounds their entanglement. Intermodal polyphony thus emerges as a core principle — not just in sound composition, but also of our modern society, in which humans increasingly collaborate with non-human, electronic, and digital agents.

Lottie Sebes Simina Oprescu abstraqt Hilary C/B Nobutaka Shomura Peter Isachenko Anna Bitter

With sonic contributions, performances and sound installations by:   Lottie Sebes https://www.lottiesebes.com/ @lottiesebes Performer, sound artist and researcher who explores historical relationships between humans and machines. Her practice serves as a lens to examine how power structures continuously manifest in our technological artefacts. With a focus on body and voice interfaces, Sebes seeks to question how we shape and are shaped by machines over time. Pushing back against sleek tech fetishism, her works unsettle norms of technological ‘progress’.

Simina Oprescu https://www.siminaoprescu.net/ @siminaoprescu Romanian electroacoustic composer and sound artist whose work explores sound's physical, perceptual, and emotional dimensions across the audible and inaudible spectrum. Combining electroacoustic composition, spatial sound, and psychoacoustics, she approaches sound as both material and affect — a force that shapes perception, presence, and relation.

Nobutaka Shomura @nobutakashomura Electronic musician, contemporary dancer and media artist. His performances and choreographies work with the interweaving of physical and immaterial media and emphasise the importance of the body as an instance of resistance.

Peter Isachenko https://www.pisound.xyz @lavender_faction Sound engineer, musician and media artist. His work spans several areas of sound application, including live sound, generative audio and multimedia art, film production and post-production, music composition, podcasting. His main interest is in the intersection of different forms of expression: Sound, image and movement.

Hilary Cox https://discretesystems.info/ @discretesystems Sound artist and intermedia creative whose practice is centred in electronic and electroacoustic modalities. In addition to her multivalent work as a composer, performing artist, sound designer and sound engineer, Hilary is also a director and curator of 90mil Radio, a broadcast platform located in the Berlin-based venue and community hub for intermedia arts, 90mil.

Anna K Bitter @anna_k_bitter Film scholar and artist working between artistic research and philosophy. She studied Film and Theatre Studies at the FU Berlin and Fine Arts at the HFBK Hamburg and worked as a cultural worker in several art insitutions in Berlin. Her works and writings focus on feminist concepts of sound and voice as well as on the discrete intertwining of technosphere and material body.

abstraqt https://abstraqt.space/ @_abstraqt Multimedia body that inhabits physical and digital spaces. In its practice it searches for and builds relations between humans, communities, media, as well as between art and activism. Deeply reliant on digital tools, abstraqt’s work is an act of extension of physical environments. It creates spaces where new forms of within-technological spirituality emerge.
